   While living on an island in Desolation sound Sonia was inspired to take a class weaving baskets of cedar and kelp. Under the teachings of Cheryl Massey, Sonia began transforming kelp into baskets of unique sizes and shapes which display intricate colors and textures. Sonia enjoys scouring the beaches of Quadra Is, with her daughter and their two dogs, looking for just the right pieces.

   Each basket is a unique one of a kind piece as the kelp dries and the colors emerge. The length of time that the kelp is dried in the sun gives it deep rich tones. This makes it most fun to do as the results are not always quite what you expected.

   The baskets are made of 100% Bull kelp. They must not get wet. They have been treated with mineral oil. Sonia wanted to keep the product as natural as possible.
